A Willow Alexander handyman preparing and painting a ceiling in a London home
Service · Painting & Decorating

Single rooms, hallways, ceilings, woodwork and the tired patches a whole redecoration doesn't justify. Filled, sanded and caulked before a brush is loaded, cut in by hand rather than taped, and the room put back the way we found it.

Vetted, trusted tradesmen

Every handyman is DBS-checked, reference-verified and uniformed before they work in your home.

A fixed price, agreed first

You know what the job costs before we pick up a tool. No hourly meter, no surprise on the invoice.

Every tool on the van

A fully stocked electric van means the whole list gets done in one visit, not spread across three appointments.

How it works

The finish is decided before the paint opens.

A cheap decorating job is cheap because of what got skipped underneath. Filling, sanding and caulking is most of the labour, and it's the whole difference between a wall that looks good and one that looks good in photographs.

Protect and prepare

Furniture moved or sheeted, floors covered properly. Then filling, sanding, caulking the gaps along skirtings and architraves, and spot-priming any bare or stained patches.

Cut in by hand

Edges, corners and the line between wall and ceiling cut in with a brush rather than masked with tape. It takes longer and it's the reason the finish reads as a professional job.

Two coats, then the tidy

Two full coats as standard unless the colour change needs three, and we'll say so upfront. Then sheets lifted, floors vacuumed, and the room usable the same evening.

What we cover

Interior decorating, room by room.

We're a handyman decorating service: single rooms, individual jobs and touch-ups, done properly. For a whole-house refurbishment we'll tell you honestly that you want a dedicated decorating firm.

Walls & ceilings

Filled, sanded and rolled to an even finish. Ceilings cut in cleanly at the wall line, with stained or previously bare patches spot-primed first so they don't flash through.

Woodwork & trim

Skirtings, architraves, doors, window boards and stair spindles. Sanded, primed where bare, and finished in eggshell, satin or gloss as you prefer.

Hallways & stairwells

The awkward high work most people avoid. We bring the right access equipment rather than balancing a ladder on the stairs.

Preparation & repairs

Cracks raked out and filled, nail holes and old fixings made good, flaking paint stripped back, and fresh caulk along the joints before anything is painted.

Touch-ups & making good

Scuffed hallways, patched-up wall repairs, marks left after furniture has moved out. The small jobs a full decorating quote makes uneconomic.

Exterior touch-ups

Front doors, window frames, fascias within safe reach and garden woodwork. Prepared and finished in an exterior-grade system that will last.

When it's right

One room. Not a whole refurbishment.

Most decorating enquiries we take are for a single space or a specific problem, which is exactly where a handyman decorator makes sense.

One room at a time

A nursery before a baby arrives, a home office, a bedroom that's been the same colour since you moved in. In and out in a day or two.

Between tenancies

A fast, clean repaint that resets a let for the next tenant. Scuffs made good, walls back to a lettable finish, on a schedule that fits the void.

Making good after work

After a wall's been chased, a TV taken down, a shelf removed or a leak repaired. Filled, sanded and painted so the repair disappears.

How we work

Vetted tradesmen. Real insurance. Fixed prices.

The questions most people ask before letting a decorator into their home. Answered upfront.

Vetted and uniformed

Every handyman is DBS-checked, reference-verified and turns up in Willow Alexander uniform in a branded van. You know who's at the door before you open it.

Fully insured

Comprehensive public liability and accidental-damage cover on every visit. Certificates available on request, and standard issue for letting agents who ask.

Priced, not metered

You get a figure for the work before we start. If the job turns out to be bigger than the photos suggested, we stop and tell you rather than quietly running up the clock.

Cleared up properly

Dust sheets down, offcuts and packaging taken away, and the floor left as we found it. The job isn't done until the room is usable again.

A direct line to talk through colours, coverage, and how much preparation the room actually needs.

How it's priced

By the room, with the prep included.

We quote the whole job — preparation, materials and finish — as one figure, so there's no separate bill for the filling once we're on site.

Single roomRecommended

Walls, ceiling and woodwork in one room, prepared and given two coats. Usually a day, sometimes two if the preparation is heavy.

Hallway & stairs

The high, awkward, high-traffic space that transforms a house more than any single room. Priced with the access equipment included.

Touch-ups & making good

Priced as a half day for the small repairs and scuffs that don't justify redecorating a whole room.

Paint can be supplied by you or sourced by us at cost. We'll tell you how much you need so you're not left with four unopened tins.

Replaced my shower curtain and rail with a glass screen, easy to book and cleared up after the job was finished. Would use again for other bits that are outside of my DIY capabilities.

Craig Clipper

What a lovely man! Thank you for coming to fix my skirting boards and with a smile. I'll be using Willow Alexander again and just saw they clean windows too!

Questions

Things people often ask.

How much does it cost to paint a room?
It depends far more on the condition of the walls than their size. A sound room that just needs two coats is straightforward; one with cracked plaster, old wallpaper adhesive or heavy filling needed is most of a second day. We'll look at it and give you one figure covering preparation, materials and finish.
Do you supply the paint?
Either way. Most clients pick their own colour and we tell them exactly how much to order. If you'd rather we sourced it, we'll buy it and pass it on at cost, itemised on the quote.
How many coats do you apply?
Two as standard. A strong colour change — dark over light, or a vivid colour either way — often needs three plus a primer, and we'll tell you that when we quote rather than discovering it halfway through.
Do you strip wallpaper?
Yes, and it's quoted separately because it's genuinely unpredictable. Some paper comes off in sheets; some takes the plaster face with it and needs the wall skimming afterwards. We'll test a patch before committing to a figure.
Will you move the furniture?
We'll move what can be moved and sheet what can't. If you can clear breakables and anything precious before we arrive it makes the job faster, and the quote reflects that.
Do you do whole-house redecoration?
We're set up for single rooms, hallways, woodwork and making good — that's where a handyman decorator gives you the best value. For a whole house we'd honestly point you at a dedicated decorating firm rather than take a job we're not the best fit for.
Can you paint the outside of the house?
Front doors, window frames, garden woodwork and anything else within safe ladder reach, yes. Full exterior render or anything needing scaffolding is outside what we take on.
