A Willow Alexander handyman assembling furniture in a London home
Service · Furniture & Flat-Pack Assembly

Wardrobes, beds, chests of drawers, desks, shelving units and garden furniture, assembled by someone who has built hundreds of them. Squared up, levelled, anchored to the wall where it needs to be, and the packaging taken away with us.

Vetted, trusted tradesmen

Every handyman is DBS-checked, reference-verified and uniformed before they work in your home.

A fixed price, agreed first

You know what the job costs before we pick up a tool. No hourly meter, no surprise on the invoice.

Every tool on the van

A fully stocked electric van means the whole list gets done in one visit, not spread across three appointments.

How it works

Out of the box, into the room, done.

Flat-pack goes wrong in predictable ways: a panel in backwards, a cam lock over-tightened, a wardrobe that racks because the floor isn't flat. We build to avoid all three.

Tell us what you've bought

The brand and item name is usually enough. IKEA, Made, Loaf, John Lewis, Wayfair or an unbranded import, we've almost certainly built it before and know where the awkward step is.

Built in the room it lives in

We assemble in place wherever we can, because a fully built wardrobe rarely fits back through a bedroom door. Dust sheets down first, tools on the sheet, not on your floor.

Levelled, squared and secured

Doors aligned so they close flush, drawers running true, feet adjusted to the floor, and anything tall anchored to the wall with the right fixing for your wall type.

What we build

If it came in a flat box, we'll build it.

Assembly is the single most-requested job on our list. This is the everyday range, and there is very little outside it.

Wardrobes & bedroom storage

PAX, sliding-door and hinged wardrobes, chests of drawers and bedside units. Doors aligned, drawers running true, and the carcass anchored so it can't tip.

Beds & bed frames

Divans, ottoman lift-up frames, bunk beds and children's beds. Built tight and re-checked so you don't get the creak that develops in the first fortnight.

Desks, tables & seating

Home-office desks, dining tables, sideboards and chairs. Levelled to your actual floor, which is rarely as flat as the instructions assume.

Shelving & storage units

Billy bookcases, cube storage, media units and modular systems, plumb, level and fixed back to the wall where the height demands it.

Garden & outdoor furniture

Rattan sets, benches, parasols, storage boxes and sheds. Built outside, weatherproofed where the instructions call for it.

Dismantling & reassembly

Moving house or reconfiguring a room? We take furniture apart properly, bag and label the fixings, and rebuild it at the other end.

When it's right

The delivery arrived. The evening didn't.

Assembly is the job people most often start themselves and most often regret starting. These are the moments we get called.

Moving in

A hallway stacked with boxes and a weekend that was meant to be for unpacking. We'll clear the flat-pack in a single visit so the rooms become rooms.

A big delivery landed

The wardrobe that arrived in six boxes and weighs more than the two of you. We bring the second pair of hands and the right tools.

Landlords & lettings

Furnishing or refurnishing a let between tenancies, on a schedule, with one invoice and no need for you to be there.

How we work

Vetted tradesmen. Real insurance. Fixed prices.

The questions most people ask before letting a tradesman into their home. Answered upfront.

Vetted and uniformed

Every handyman is DBS-checked, reference-verified and turns up in Willow Alexander uniform in a branded van. You know who's at the door before you open it.

Fully insured

Comprehensive public liability and accidental-damage cover on every visit. Certificates available on request, and standard issue for letting agents who ask.

Priced, not metered

You get a figure for the work before we start. If the job turns out to be bigger than the photos suggested, we stop and tell you rather than quietly running up the clock.

Cleared up properly

Dust sheets down, offcuts and packaging taken away, and the floor left as we found it. The job isn't done until the room is usable again.

How it's priced

By the job, or by the day.

One item is priced as a job. Several items are almost always cheaper as a block of time, and we'll tell you which way round works out better for you.

Single itemRecommended

One wardrobe, one bed, one desk. A fixed price for that item, confirmed before we book it in. The most common way people use us.

Half or full day

A room's worth or a house move's worth. Better value than pricing each piece separately, and we'll get through more than you'd expect.

Dismantle & rebuild

Priced as a pair of visits, one at each end of the move, with the fixings bagged and labelled in between so nothing goes missing.

Every quote is a clear, itemised figure agreed before we start, with no hidden costs and no obligation.

Fixed-price quote

Replaced my shower curtain and rail with a glass screen, easy to book and cleared up after the job was finished. Would use again for other bits that are outside of my DIY capabilities.

Craig Clipper

What a lovely man! Thank you for coming to fix my skirting boards and with a smile. I'll be using Willow Alexander again and just saw they clean windows too!

Quietly carbon-conscious.

“Low-tox, plant-based products and a fully electric fleet. A lighter footprint, for the same high standard of clean.”

Questions

Things people often ask.

How much does flat-pack assembly cost?
It depends on the item, not the hour. A bedside table is a small job; a four-door PAX wardrobe with sliding doors and interior fittings is most of a morning. Tell us the brand and item name and we'll come back with a fixed price before you book.
Do you build IKEA furniture?
Constantly. PAX, BILLY, MALM, BESTÅ, HEMNES and the rest — we've built them enough times to know which steps the instructions gloss over and where the diagram is genuinely wrong.
Can you take the packaging away?
Yes, and it's included as standard. Flat-pack generates a startling amount of cardboard and polystyrene, and leaving you with a hallway full of it isn't finishing the job.
Will you fix the wardrobe to the wall?
Yes, and we'd insist on it for anything tall, especially with children in the house. We use the right fixing for your wall — plasterboard, lath and plaster, or solid brick all need different anchors, and the one in the box is rarely the right one.
What if a part is missing or damaged?
We'll tell you straight away and, where we can, work around it and come back to finish. It's worth opening the boxes and checking the parts list before we arrive — it's the single most common cause of a job that can't be completed on the day.
Can you assemble furniture I've already started?
Yes, and there's no judgement in it. We'll often take back a few steps first to check nothing's in the wrong way round, because a panel reversed at step four is much cheaper to fix than at step forty.
Do you dismantle furniture for a move?
Yes. We take it apart properly, bag and label every fixing against the piece it belongs to, and can rebuild at the new address. Booked as two visits, quoted together.
