A Willow Alexander handyman working on an outdoor structure in a garden
Service · Decking, Fencing & Gates

Fence panels and posts replaced, gates rehung so they shut and latch, decking boards renewed and re-oiled, sheds built and garden structures repaired. Outdoor carpentry, done in materials that will see out a few winters.

Vetted, trusted tradesmen

Every handyman is DBS-checked, reference-verified and uniformed before they work in your home.

A fixed price, agreed first

You know what the job costs before we pick up a tool. No hourly meter, no surprise on the invoice.

Every tool on the van

A fully stocked electric van means the whole list gets done in one visit, not spread across three appointments.

How it works

It's nearly always the post, not the panel.

A fence blows down at the post, and a gate drops because the hinge post has rotted at ground level. Replace the panel alone and you'll be doing it again after the next gale.

Find the actual failure

We check the posts at ground level first, where timber rots and concrete spurs crack. That's where nearly every fence and gate failure starts, and it's rarely where people are looking.

Fixed with the right material

Pressure-treated timber, concrete or repair spurs where posts have gone, galvanised or stainless fixings throughout. Ordinary screws bleed rust down a new fence within one winter.

Squared, set and tested

Posts set plumb and given time to hold, panels sitting level along the run, and gates swung and latched repeatedly before we call it finished.

What we cover

Garden carpentry and outdoor repairs.

Repairs, replacements and assembly. We're not landscapers — we don't lay patios or build retaining walls — but everything timber in the garden is our territory.

Fence panels & posts

Blown-down or rotten panels replaced, posts renewed or repaired with concrete spurs, gravel boards fitted to keep timber off wet ground.

Gates hung & repaired

Garden and side gates rehung so they swing true and latch first time. Dropped hinges replaced, frames squared up, and new gates fitted.

Decking repairs

Rotten or split boards replaced, loose boards refixed, wobbling handrails made solid, and the whole surface cleaned and re-oiled.

Sheds & garden buildings

Flat-pack sheds and summerhouses assembled, felt roofs replaced, doors rehung and rotten floors and panels repaired.

Trellis, screens & planters

Trellis and privacy screens fitted to fences and walls, raised beds and planters built or repaired.

Painting & treating

Fences, gates, decking and sheds treated, stained or painted to protect them. Best done on a dry spell, and we'll tell you when to book it.

When it's right

After the wind, before the winter.

Garden work has a rhythm. The damage arrives in one weekend and the repairs are best done before the weather closes in properly.

After a storm

Panels down, a gate off its hinges, trellis torn away. We'll make it secure quickly, especially if you've a dog or children and the boundary is open.

Before summer

Decking cleaned and re-oiled, fences treated, the gate easing so it stops catching. All the jobs that make the garden usable from April.

Boundaries & security

Raising a fence for privacy, fitting a lockable side gate, or making a boundary secure enough that the dog stays in it.

How we work

Vetted tradesmen. Real insurance. Fixed prices.

The questions most people ask before letting a tradesman work on their boundary. Answered upfront.

Vetted and uniformed

Every handyman is DBS-checked, reference-verified and turns up in Willow Alexander uniform in a branded van. You know who's at the door before you open it.

Fully insured

Comprehensive public liability and accidental-damage cover on every visit. Certificates available on request, and standard issue for letting agents who ask.

Priced, not metered

You get a figure for the work before we start. If the job turns out to be bigger than the photos suggested, we stop and tell you rather than quietly running up the clock.

Cleared up properly

Dust sheets down, offcuts and packaging taken away, and the floor left as we found it. The job isn't done until the room is usable again.

A direct line to price a run of fencing, a dropped gate, or a deck that needs boards replacing.

How it's priced

By the panel, the gate, or the day.

Fencing is priced per panel and post, which makes it easy to see what you're paying for. Repairs and assembly are priced as a job.

Single repairRecommended

One panel, one post, one gate rehung, a handful of deck boards. Priced as a job, usually done in a morning.

A run of fencing

Several panels and posts along a boundary. Priced per panel with the posts and gravel boards itemised so nothing is hidden.

Full day

Deck cleaned and re-oiled, fence treated, gate rehung, shed roof re-felted. The whole garden list in one visit.

Timber can be supplied by you or sourced by us at cost. We use pressure-treated stock and galvanised fixings as standard — untreated timber and bright screws are a false economy outdoors.

Replaced my shower curtain and rail with a glass screen, easy to book and cleared up after the job was finished. Would use again for other bits that are outside of my DIY capabilities.

Craig Clipper

What a lovely man! Thank you for coming to fix my skirting boards and with a smile. I'll be using Willow Alexander again and just saw they clean windows too!

Questions

Things people often ask.

My fence blew down. Can you replace just the panel?
Sometimes, but check the post first — that's usually what actually failed. Timber posts rot at ground level and a new panel bolted to a rotten post will come down again in the next gale. We'll tell you honestly whether the post needs replacing or whether a concrete repair spur will do.
Whose fence is it?
Worth knowing before you book. Your title deeds or the Land Registry plan usually show which boundaries you're responsible for, often marked with a T. If it's shared or your neighbour's, a conversation before the work saves a much more awkward one afterwards.
How long does a fence post take to set?
Postcrete goes off in minutes but wants 24 hours before taking real load. We'll set posts and hang panels in the same visit where the sequence allows, and where it doesn't we'll come back rather than rush it and have it move.
Can you fix a gate that drags on the ground?
Yes, and it's usually the hinge post leaning rather than the gate sagging. We'll straighten or replace the post, reset the hinges and adjust the latch so it shuts and catches first time instead of needing a lift and a shove.
Can you repair decking rather than replace it?
Usually. Individual rotten or split boards can be swapped out, and if the joists underneath are sound the deck has plenty of life left. If the frame itself has gone we'll tell you, because patching boards over a failing structure is money wasted.
Do you build sheds?
Yes. Flat-pack sheds, summerhouses and garden storage assembled on your base. The base needs to be level and solid before we arrive — a shed built on an uneven base will have doors that won't shut within a season.
Do you do landscaping or patios?
No. We're a handyman service, so timber structures, repairs and assembly are what we do. Laying patios, building retaining walls and groundworks are a landscaper's job, and Willow Alexander Gardeners covers the planting and garden side.
