A Willow Alexander handyman clearing gutters from a ladder on a London house
Service · Gutter Clearing & Jet Washing

Gutters and downpipes cleared by hand and flushed through while we watch, and patios, paths, decking and driveways jet washed back to the colour you'd forgotten they were. The outside jobs that only get worse if they wait.

Vetted, trusted tradesmen

Every handyman is DBS-checked, reference-verified and uniformed before they work in your home.

A fixed price, agreed first

You know what the job costs before we pick up a tool. No hourly meter, no surprise on the invoice.

Every tool on the van

A fully stocked electric van means the whole list gets done in one visit, not spread across three appointments.

How it works

Clearing it isn't the job. Proving it runs is.

Plenty of gutter clearing is scooping out the visible debris and leaving. If the downpipe is still blocked further down you'll be calling someone back in a fortnight, in the rain.

Cleared by hand

Debris lifted out and bagged rather than flicked over the garden. Moss, silt, leaves and the nesting material that quietly builds up behind the fascia.

Flushed and run-tested

Water put through every run and every downpipe while we watch it discharge at the bottom. That's the only way to know the whole system is clear, not just the bit you can see.

Reported back

We'll tell you about a cracked joint, a sagging bracket or a leaking seam while we're up there. Small fixes we'll do on the spot; bigger ones we'll quote rather than surprise you with.

What we cover

Gutters, downpipes and hard surfaces.

The exterior maintenance that protects the fabric of the building. Neglected gutters cause damp walls and rotten fascias, and both cost far more to fix than clearing them.

Gutter clearing

Full length cleared by hand, debris bagged and taken away, and every run flushed and watched to confirm it discharges properly.

Downpipe unblocking

Blockages cleared from the pipe itself, including the gulley at the bottom, which is where a surprising number of overflows actually originate.

Minor gutter repairs

Loose brackets refixed, leaking joints resealed and slipped sections realigned so water runs to the outlet instead of pooling.

Patio & path jet washing

Paving, slabs, block paving and paths washed back to the stone. Algae, moss and years of ingrained grime lifted rather than smeared around.

Driveways & decking

Driveways brought back to their original colour, and decking cleaned at a pressure the timber will take without furring the surface.

Walls, fences & bins

Rendered walls, brickwork, garden walls, fence panels and wheelie bins washed down as part of a wider exterior clean.

When it's right

Twice a year, and after the leaves come down.

Gutters are the classic out-of-sight job. The first sign of trouble is usually water running down the wall, and by then there's already a damp patch inside.

Autumn and spring

After leaf fall and again before summer. Two visits a year keeps the system running and the fascias dry, which is far cheaper than replacing either.

Water down the wall

An overflowing gutter or a wet patch on the render means the system has already failed somewhere. Worth clearing before it becomes damp indoors.

Selling or letting

A jet-washed patio and clear gutters change how a property photographs and how a survey reads. One of the cheapest things you can do before marketing.

How we work

Vetted tradesmen. Real insurance. Working safely.

The questions most people ask before letting a tradesman up a ladder on their property. Answered upfront.

Vetted and uniformed

Every handyman is DBS-checked, reference-verified and turns up in Willow Alexander uniform in a branded van. You know who's at the door before you open it.

Fully insured

Comprehensive public liability and accidental-damage cover on every visit. Certificates available on request, and standard issue for letting agents who ask.

Priced, not metered

You get a figure for the work before we start. If the job turns out to be bigger than the photos suggested, we stop and tell you rather than quietly running up the clock.

Cleared up properly

Dust sheets down, offcuts and packaging taken away, and the floor left as we found it. The job isn't done until the room is usable again.

A direct line to price a gutter clear, book a patio wash, or set up a twice-yearly visit.

How it's priced

Per visit, or twice a year on a standing date.

Priced by the property and the length of the run. Most clients settle into a spring and autumn rhythm once they've had it done properly once.

One-off clear

A single visit — full clear, flush and run test, with debris taken away and any faults reported back to you.

Twice a yearRecommended

Spring and autumn on a standing date, so it happens without you having to remember. The approach that actually protects the building.

Gutters + jet washing

The full exterior reset in one visit: gutters cleared and the patio, path and driveway washed. Better value booked together.

We work from ladders and safe access equipment. Anything needing scaffolding or roof access beyond safe ladder reach is outside what we take on, and we'll tell you upfront.

Replaced my shower curtain and rail with a glass screen, easy to book and cleared up after the job was finished. Would use again for other bits that are outside of my DIY capabilities.

What a lovely man! Thank you for coming to fix my skirting boards and with a smile. I'll be using Willow Alexander again and just saw they clean windows too!

Questions

Things people often ask.

How often should gutters be cleared?
Twice a year for most properties — after leaf fall in autumn and again in spring. If you have mature trees overhanging the roof, autumn alone often isn't enough. If you're not sure, we'll tell you what we find on the first visit and recommend honestly.
How do you know the downpipe is actually clear?
We run water through it and watch it discharge at the bottom. Clearing the visible debris from the gutter tells you nothing about the pipe below it, and a blocked downpipe is what causes the overflow in the first place.
Do you take the debris away?
Yes, bagged and removed. Some outfits flick it into the garden or leave it in a pile by the drain, which just washes back into the gulley next time it rains.
Will jet washing damage my patio?
Not when the pressure is matched to the surface. Natural stone, block paving, concrete and decking all take different settings, and jointing sand in block paving needs replacing afterwards. Old or already-crumbling pointing can be lifted by any pressure at all, and we'll point that out before we start rather than after.
Can you jet wash decking?
Yes, at a much lower pressure than paving. Too much pressure raises the grain and leaves timber furry and prone to splinters. Done properly it comes up well, and it's the right moment to re-oil it afterwards.
Do you repair gutters as well as clear them?
Minor repairs, yes — refixing loose brackets, resealing leaking joints and realigning slipped sections while we're already up there. Replacing full runs of guttering or anything needing scaffolding is a roofing job and we'll say so.
Do you need access to the back garden?
Yes, and to the whole perimeter of the building where there's guttering. If there's a locked side gate or a neighbour's access involved, let us know when you book so we're not turned away on the day.
